alternate selves

Elias “gems”

ELIAS: “You hold many, many, many, underline, aspects of essence, more than you may count. There are intersections and interactions occurring continuously with you each from these aspects of essence. They may be alternate selves and their interactions, which we have discussed. They may be probable selves. They may be other aspects of energy within your essence, manifest for helpfulness within a specific situation. Your essence is focused upon you completely, as it is with all of its focuses.” [session 133, November 17, 1996]

ELIAS: “An alternate is directly related, so to speak, to this focus. Alternate selves are related to the individual focuses. Therefore, an alternate self would be all of the aspects of you that are actualized within this focus. Each focus holds endless alternates.” [session 154, February 23, 1997]

JOE: “These energy centers, these chakras, which I was going to explore with you further today but I got off on this tangent of mine, does the central focus and all of the probable focuses rely on the same energy centers, or do each of the probable or alternate selves have their own energy centers?”

ELIAS: “Each probable self incorporates its own energy centers. Each alternate self incorporates the same energy centers as you recognize.”

JOE: “Okay, so the same energy centers that I have would also be affective of all alternate selves, but probable selves are actually almost – I don’t know if this is the right term – a fragmentation that have their own energy centers.”

ELIAS: “Figuratively speaking, yes, although they are not fragmented.”

JOE: “Yes....”

ELIAS: “I am understanding of your meaning in your terminology.”

JOE: “Okay. I know what I’m trying to say, but trying to come up with the right vocabulary sometimes is a little tough.”

ELIAS: (Laughing) “Ah, the limitations of physical language!”

JOE: “Yes, indeed. (Elias chuckles) And I think even a mastery of it, even a total mastery of it, would be totally limiting too.”

ELIAS: “You are correct.” (Chuckling) [session 758, January 14, 2001]

ELIAS: “As I have expressed previously, alternate selves are numberless but they are all you; they are all the you’s of you in a particular focus. Probable selves are generated within moments of what you may term to be intense choice, almost in what you may express as crossroad choices.

“In every moment that you generate a choice which creates a direction, you also generate countless probable selves. If you choose to be moving your physical location, at the moment that you generate that choice and move your physical location you also generate countless probable selves to be expressing all other probabilities in association with your one choice to move your physical location of your dwelling, so to speak. This is an example of how you generate probable selves. As you choose one mate, you also generate countless probable selves that choose other expressions.” [session 1018, February 25, 2002]

Elias “gems”

ELIAS: “Seers and alternate selves, in relation to intersections of inspiration! (Grinning, as this is our first ‘title’)

You think in extremely limited terms. Therefore, you think in terms of one, or singularity. You do not view the multidimensionality of yourselves. We have expressed to you that you each incorporate an aspect of Seer. In this, we shall refer to our new friend’s analogy of your television and its stations.

You may think of yourself as the television set. You are the television; this focus; but you may quite easily access any channel available within the frequencies that your individual set may ‘pick up,’ for there are some frequencies within your individual focus that you do not actually pick up within physical focus, for in your terms, they are far removed from you, occupying other realities quite removed; but within your pool of probabilities and your alternate selves, you may tune your consciousness to any of your individual channels, so to speak. Among these channels also is your Seer aspect; this being also, in your terms, an alternate self. This particular aspect parallels your focus continuously, and also intersects with the individual focus; the consciousness that you recognize.

There are different types of inspiration, as you each well understand. Some types of inspiration are quite creative within their expression, and very obvious. You feel inspired. Many artists and musicians incorporate this feeling of inspiration, which they translate into creative manifestations. There are other types of inspiration that are more subtle. Within the focus of the Seers, the inspiration points provided by the intersections are not quite as obvious, although they may be, at certain times, very obvious to you.

Each time, throughout your focus, or your ‘lifetime’ as you view it presently, that you are motivated to be seeking out truth and truthful, undistorted information, you are intersecting with the alternate self of Seer, which is an element or aspect of you. This element you may view to be similar to what you think of as your ‘subconscious.’

It is not your subconscious, but just as you view yourself and your waking consciousness, and you also view that you incorporate a subconscious aspect of yourself that continues with you throughout your entirety of your focus, not separate from you, you may also view that aspect which is Seer to be similar in its function. It parallels you and intersects with you throughout your focus.

Now; the number of times that you allow this intersection varies. Some of you allow an openness, subjectively, to this alternate self of Seer. Therefore, you incorporate more points within your time period of intersection, which is translated into inspiration. Each time you are motivated to be investigating the undistorted information of any subject, it matters not, you are allowing a subjective intersection of the Seer aspect alternate self with your objective focus. You intersect with other elements, other alternate or probable selves, at different time periods throughout your focus. These intersections you would view to be different, for they incorporate different types of inspiration. You may be inspired artistically. You may be inspired parentally. You may be inspired personally. You may be inspired in many different ways, but each time you are inspired within a motivation to be incorporating information within its truth, you are intersecting with Seer.

We shall offer an example. I shall allow Lawrence [Vicki] as our example this evening. Each time you have been motivated to be investigating the reality of a given subject, as with your extraterrestrials, this is an intersection of Seer. It is a motivating element which is seeking, within your objective awareness, information which incorporates truth and which is undistorted, for this is your intent.

There are other time periods within your focus that this intent seems not to be present within your motivation of inspiration. As I have expressed, you are motivated within inspiration throughout your focus, many more times than you recognize. You may be motivated in what you view to be very small areas. If you are choosing to be incorporating a new living area, you may be inspired by a home. This is a different type of inspiration, but it is also an intersection point of an alternate self.

This is a quite difficult area to be explaining to you, for as it has been stated, you incorporate all knowledge already; but you also intersect with new knowledge. It is new, for it is being created within the now, as you create it; but it is also already existent.

Let us view the scenario of choosing a new dwelling. You, intersecting with an alternate or probable self, are inspired to be moving into a new home. Within the process of seeking out a new home, you investigate many different dwellings. One may strike you as being what you view to be your perfect image of your dream house. In this, you have intersected, once again, with an alternate or probable self.

Now; within the action of this intersection, you are creating the reality within the moment, but the reality also simultaneously already exists in what you view to be past, or future, or both; for within the reality of the alternate self, the existence is incorporated already. Therefore, as you step over your threshold into your prospective new home, you may feel a feeling of familiarity or comfort. Many individuals describe this as a ‘knowing’ of this area. This house feels welcoming. The building of the house does not incorporate the feelings. It is not emanating emotion to you. The alternate self that you are interacting with and intersecting with is projecting emotion, feelings, and thoughts to you. You merge; therefore you feel the feelings.

You do not always recognize these intersections, but they do occur. In this, the alternate self already occupies this house. The reality of this living space, and action of living within this space, is already existent, but it is not; for you are creating it within the moment! (Pause, during which you can hear some ‘confused laughter’)

You have asked for information. You shall receive your information. I shall not be guaranteeing that you shall understand objectively what you are receiving, but it shall be delivered regardless, for you will understand subjectively.

This evening’s session shall be brief, for within our present meeting of Seers, much hesitation in movement has been occurring within your probabilities. Therefore, as you question much, you also hold tightly to your individual energies, and do not allow quite as much bleed-through presently. This, we are confident, will change, within your choosing probabilities.

These are difficult subjects. There are pools of consciousness, as we have expressed, but they are not individual, singular pools. There are pools within pools within pools, merged and interconnected and intersected with each other, inside and outside of each other, in your terms. There are infinite amounts of intersections that occur continuously. You only view those which are expressed outwardly, objectively; [those] that you may see. Just as we have expressed the connections of probabilities that you do not see, you also do not see the movement that you involve yourselves with, which is much greater than you imagine.

(Firmly) You cannot stand still! If an impossibility exists within All-That-Is (1), it is non-motion, for energy is always in motion. Therefore, you are in motion also, regardless of how ‘planted’ you view yourselves to be!” [session 120, September 15, 1996]

ELIAS: “I have begun to express to you elements of body consciousness. I have expressed to you from early on in our session times that your physical expression, your body, is not a vessel! It is a tangible, physical matter expression of essence. It is you. It holds its own consciousness, for each cell holds its own independent consciousness. Each atom holds its own individual consciousness. Within cooperation, it creates a collective consciousness which becomes your body consciousness. You, as a focus of essence, hold consciousness beyond the physical manifestation of body consciousness, but are intimately involved with this consciousness. You direct the consciousness and function of your physical expression; your body. (2)

You are not another focus, but you may experience another focus. Another focus holds a body consciousness of its own, but you may experience an exchange and you may experience another focus in its totality. You may merge totally to another focus and experience another focus, as it may do likewise also.

I have also expressed that you intersect alternate selves. I have expressed that you may exchange with alternate selves. You may accomplish a certain time period within a focus and you may exchange with an alternate self, which shall continue the focus as you continue otherwise. How is this possible if your body consciousness is only your body consciousness? Here we come to unofficial information.

You view yourselves as one entity. You view yourselves as one mind, one body. You are not! You view your consciousness as one thinking mind, one thought process. You are countless thought processes. Each focus is not one entity. The air within this room occupies one space. It is not one entity. In like manner, you focus within one material expression physically, but your consciousness is not singular. Your physical body expression resonates to the tone of you, of one focus; not to the entirety of essence, but to the individual focus; for each focus is a new creation. It has been always, but it is new. We do not deal with used material!

Your body consciousness recognizes your beingness. Your body consciousness also recognizes that your focus beingness is an aspect of your essence and will also identify with all other aspects of essence. Therefore, within essence you may exchange temporarily between focuses.

Each focus is as the air within this room; myriads of aspects, countless elements of personality cooperating to create one focus. This allows for all of your alternate selves. These may exchange with an individual focus. However, another focus may not exchange with you. You may temporarily intersect and experience, but you may not ‘take over.’

You have asked much time ago of your concept of walk-ins; another entity which ‘walks into you,’ therefore assuming your physical expression and continuing for you as you dissipate into the cosmos! (3) Which, we do not know of where you shall be dissipating to, but the new entity shall be ‘taking over’ your physical form. This does not happen! Underline! You may not assume another focus, for it is not you, although it is you! (Confused laughter) You may temporarily intersect, merge, experience another focus, just as they may temporarily merge with you and experience. In this mergence, you are unaware of this presence. You do not lose you, as they do not lose themselves.

If you are exchanging with another focus, you may merge into the experience of another focus. You may empathically be another focus. Aspects of your focus shall merge. This in reality you may consider, in your terms, a physical act. Your consciousness shall merge into this other individual. They may feel odd or strangely, but they also will continue to feel themselves. You shall hold an awareness, as if you are this focus. This may occur temporarily. You may not assume another focus. As you are all focuses of one essence, mergences may occur. The tone is close enough, in your terms, that each individual body consciousness shall temporarily be accepting of this mergence; temporarily.

Alternate selves hold almost entirely the same tone as what you understand of yourself. That self which you identify as you has countless alternate selves which are also you. You only identify one you, but just as you identify one air within one space, there are myriads of particles that are making up of this space. These alternates may exchange places with you, in your terms, for their tone will not be interrupting of your body consciousness. Another essence merging with you will be recognized by your body consciousness; and has been stated previously, your physical response within your body, to placing what you term to be foreign objects within it, shall be rejection. Your body and its consciousness holds its own awareness and responds to you.

This is not to say that an exchange with another essence may not occur ... obviously! (Laughter) Within agreement, an exchange may occur with another essence, but the body consciousness recognizes this exchange and is partially rejecting of this exchange. Physical elements occur, for the body consciousness realizes the essence occupying and directing ... We shall more express directing, for the essence does not float in and float out! But the body is recognizing of the direction and tone, which is different. Therefore, its response is to be rejecting of this. It will not reject alternates. It will not reject temporary exchange of other focuses of essence. It will be rejecting of another essence exchange. (Vic’s note: this must be why Mary experiences unexplainable physical symptoms and affectingness.) This is part of unofficial information. In all of its aspects, you may experience exchange or intersection with alternates or with another focus, and you may experience emotional changes, thought changes, action changes, that you do not understand. They shall be temporary, in your view, but you shall notice.

I have expressed to you that you do not reincarnate. Each focus is of itself a new creation, independent within personality. You have not been manifest over and over and over again, but you have been always; for outside of your present recognized reality, there is no time frame as you understand it. Therefore, what was, is. You are then as you are now also. If you are thinking of your individual focus and you are thinking of these air particles, that you are not one entity, you may allow yourself a clearer understanding of the diversity of self. Just as particles do not communicate through time in faster than light speed but know within them, so are you also. Subjectively, you are aware, to a point, of your other focuses. They do not all occupy the same time framework as you, but they all occur now. Therefore, as you are Seer, you are this now, and you are also presently Seer within what you consider the beginning of your physical manifestation now. (Pause)

This air particle I have caught (grabbing air with one hand) is now this air particle (grabbing air with other hand) is now they are air. They do not occupy the same space. They are simultaneous. They are both air. They are both the same, as are you within your focuses.” [session 147, January 12, 1997]

PAUL: “Another dream experience that happened recently, a very lucid experience where I get this tingling, a crystal clear tingling in my forehead, as objective as I am now perceiving you. I asked Caroll [Paul], not using that name, to present him/her/itself, and a focus appeared, and I got the name ‘Manson.’ It was a fairly average-looking male, older than me, and I was very excited to see this appear. I tried to engage it in verbal communication and my throat constricted, and I realized that I was attempting to communicate in a way that was not as efficient or appropriate, and I choked on it and I woke up and I was really frustrated. I guess my question is, I had asked to connect with a future focus – that’s one of my little games I play with myself – and I’m wondering if this ‘Manson’ aspect is a future focus, and if you could comment on the type of communication I was attempting and not quite succeeding at?

ELIAS: There are two elements to this intersection; one being that you have presented yourself with a future focus, which is not a focus in your linear terms yet, for presently it is an aspect of this focus. It is a future focus simultaneously, but within your time thickness and your linear time designations, it also is an aspect of this present focus; an alternate self. Therefore, you experience difficulty in communication with this alternate self, for you create a barrier. This would be your barrier that you have created between these two aspects of this focus, in like manner to Michael’s [Mary’s] viewing of an alternate self, but not holding the ability to penetrate a field to touch the other aspect, creating a barrier between the two. Communication was allowed, but no contact was allowed, for a veil was placed between, for this is a slightly different action than intersecting with another focus. If allowing yourself to be connecting with this same aspect, which IS the other focus, you shall be more successful. If pursuing connecting or intersecting with this aspect as an aspect of you presently, you shall be experiencing slight difficulties, but you may be accomplishing if you are choosing to be pursuing this area.

PAUL: You mentioned certain parts of the experience not being allowed. That implies other essences that I’m....

ELIAS: Incorrect! Absolutely incorrect. It is not allowed by yourself, for it may be threatening to your individual identity, for this aspect is also you and not separate from you.

VICKI: Can I ask a question about that? So to go to the analogy of the tree and the branches and the leaves, this interaction could be viewed as a leaf? Is this correct? (4)

ELIAS: Correct.

VICKI: But you also said that within the context of a time thickness, it is also a future focus?

ELIAS: Correct.

VICKI: So does the leaf then turn into a branch?

ELIAS: They are connected. The leaf and the branch exist simultaneously, but they are different. They are both elements of the tree, but they occupy different positions; the branch being the focus, the leaf being the alternate. They are existing simultaneously. They are connected. They hold different functions and capacities. It would be as the leaf fading in and out, being an element of the branch, but then appearing as the leaf, then appearing as an element of the branch, and leaving ghost trails of the leaf.

VICKI: So I would imagine that this particular explanation of this action wouldn’t apply to all of what we consider alternate selves?

ELIAS: No. (Intently) Within each focus, as I have expressed, you hold myriads of alternate selves. They are not necessarily focuses. They are aspects of you, but you view yourselves so very singularly that you view yourselves as occupying one physical body with one thought process, with one mind, with one everything, but you are not. You are myriads of you’s within each focus; and within certain actions and probabilities, you may be choosing to be creating a focus of an alternate you, which is within simultaneous time already, but also is as you within an alternate self. Therefore, you may be interacting with them each individually, although they are the same. But within the choice of which direction you focus your attention and choose to be intersecting, if you are choosing to be intersecting with another focus, this is not quite as threatening to your individual identity within this particular focus, for you view within your belief systems that you may understand that another focus is an aspect of you, but holds its own integrity and is not you. Within an alternate, this does not exist. This alternate IS you. It is the same as you, for it is another aspect of you.

Just as you do not divide your emotional qualities from yourself and assign that they are different entities. You may be feeling joy or you may be feeling sadness, and these exist within you as elements of you. You do not separate them out and express, ‘This individual here is sadness; it walks beside me. This individual here is joyfulness; it walks beside me. I am neither of these entities, for these are separate elements of me and they are removed into separate entities.’ You do not view yourself in this manner. In the same respect, you may not separate alternates either. They are you; but in confronting yourself with an alternate, it is the same as popping out of yourself one singular emotion and creating another entity and facing yourself with this other you, which may not be separated out. You objectively image another image, another form, for this is what you understand, but this image is not another form. It is you.

In this, this be the reason that you hold the threat of identity in viewing an alternate where you do not feel quite such a threat of individual identity in intersecting with another focus, for you do hold limited understanding that another focus is not you.

(Vic’s note: Oh, I get it now!)

PAUL: So it was my fear of losing individuality when confronting myself right here that kept me from communicating with myself?

ELIAS: And completely intersecting. This is common. You may, if choosing to be pursuing this avenue and this intersection, you may be accomplishing in this, although this shall require more practice than would be necessary within intersection of another focus.” [session 224, October 01, 1997]

ELIAS: “Within physical focus, as a focus manifestation, you are not singular. You hold countless alternate selves which are continuously interchanging with you. These alternate selves are all you. They are different aspects of the uniqueness of you, but they are all elements of what you may perceive to be the whole of the individual focus. In expressing that there are countless numbers of these aspects of yourselves, you may envision to yourselves numbers initially, if this be facilitating of an ease in your thought process. You may express that you hold ten thousand alternate selves – although this is figuratively speaking, for in actuality they are numberless – and in this you may also visualize to yourselves that within each moment there is an interchange, an exchange, that is occurring with different aspects of the self. At times within a particular focus, these aspects exchange places, so to speak. One aspect within the focus may be appearing to be dominant. This be the projection of the personality.

In this, in time frameworks that you are creating of different choices, you are exchanging positions with other aspects of self. You exchange with other aspects of self in different activities also. Certain aspects hold greater ability, so to speak, in different actions. Therefore, it is a continual exchange.

... I have expressed previously that an analogy to this concept may be to view yourself and all of the different complexes that are you. Each emotion that you hold is a part of you which may not be separated from you but is not the whole of you. Each thought that you possess is an element of you but is not the whole of you and also may not be separated from you, but it is a priori within itself, although not separable from you. In this respect, alternate selves’ aspects are the same. They are interchangeable. You may hold many moods. At any given moment you may be experiencing one mood, and within another moment you may be experiencing another mood. These are you, but they are different aspects of you.

Another example of objective evidence that you may view of alternate selves, of aspects of self, would be demonstrated within an individual focus within experiences. You may experience differences within your focus that you are noticing of. You are expressing differently than you are accustomed to. You may be creating of new experiences which seem to you to be slightly inconsistent with your previous creations. This is a recognition that you have exchanged positions with another aspect of yourself. You may consistently respond to another individual in the same manner, and within one moment you may begin responding to the individual slightly differently. This is an exchange of an alternate self, another aspect of you.

I have stated previously, this particular dimension of physical focus is extremely complex. There are many aspects of this particular physical dimension that far exceed your objective comprehension presently, although this is not to say that you do not hold the ability to access this information, for you do.” [session 269, March 19, 1998]

LESLIE: “It seems like there was a major change around thirteen years ago, and then again five or six years ago, within me, and it’s almost very difficult to remember. It’s like I’m a whole different person than I was in my twenties.

ELIAS: Quite.

LESLIE: And I don’t know what happened at those two intervals, ’cause it seems to me that it’s a very drastic change.

ELIAS: Quite. This may be explained in this manner:

Many other individuals within physical focus also experience similar actions and therefore create belief systems in this area that suggest to them ideas that they have invented, such as ‘walk-ins’ and the like. This in actuality is not the situation.

At times within an individual focus, the individual exchanges positions with an alternate self of themselves. You exchange and interchange with alternate selves continuously throughout your focuses, but for the most part one aspect of the self, of the focus, designates itself as the main. In this, at times that particular aspect may fulfill its element of the value fulfillment of the focus. In this action it shall exchange positions with an alternate, which is another aspect of the self, the all of the focus. In this action, there appears to you as the individual to be dramatic alterations or changes in your focus.

Some individuals actually at times experience elements of what you would term to be objective memory loss. Other individuals merely recognize that a profound change has occurred within them, but they hold no explanation, for they hold no objective realization of this action, for you have chosen to be selective in your attention and singular in your attention within each particular focus. This allows you clarity and allows for the purity of your experiences, but you also are aware when these types of exchanges are occurring or have occurred, for another aspect of yourself moves into the primary objective position, and in this is fulfilling of a different aspect of the value fulfillment within the whole of the individual focus.

In this, you will also notice that your interests or your talents or your thought processes or your emotional interaction may be quite altered, for a different aspect is now the objective ‘fulfiller.’ In this, the focus – as is the situation with yourself – chooses to be experiencing more elements within the one particular focus, that they may be more fully interactive with their own experiences within their own value fulfillment, offering themselves a similar type of action to counterpart action, but expressed objectively within one focus, one self.” [session 282, May 28, 1998]

RODNEY: “I would like to talk to you or ask you some questions regarding dream images that I have, and a singular, unusual experience. The first is an experience I had almost ten years ago. I had awakened from a nap in the late afternoon, and I thought I saw a small doll suspended in the air about an arm’s length from me, a warrior. I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be nice if it was really there?’ and I attempted to touch it. To my surprise, as I was holding out my finger, I felt my finger being pressed between two giant fingers. I was so taken that I almost fainted back into a sleep, and I thought, ‘This is too good to be true.’ And with that, I felt a kiss upon my lips, and was very, very moved by this entire experience. I was hoping that you might be able to look at this experience and relate to me what is going on here that I have not been able to see, because what I’ve related to you is about all that I know of it.

ELIAS: Very well. Let me express to you that within this experience, you have offered yourself the opportunity to be interacting with another aspect of yourself. Initially, you have imaged this as this doll in the form of a warrior. This is another aspect of yourself which lies latent within this particular focus. This is not another focus of yours, but another aspect of yourself within this particular focus which is a latent quality.

Now; in this let me explain to you that all of these aspects of self are, within themselves, as other individual selves. They all hold the same qualities in consciousness that you recognize as yourself, but they identify with their attention in specific areas just as you identify in specific areas, recognizing you as the you that you know.

In this, other aspects of you may be likened to probable selves, but in difference to probable selves, they are not projections from you that you project away from yourself, offering those aspects the opportunity to be experiencing within their own right, independent of you, another reality; but these aspects are what you may term to be alternate selves. These alternate selves exist as elements of you.

In this, you have in actuality allowed yourself the opportunity to view and to be connecting with and interactive with another alternate self of your own. Therefore, as you reach to touch this alternate self, you do not experience what you may consider to be a barrier, but you also do not in actuality touch the alternate self physically. Instead, what you experience is another element touching you. This would be that aspect responding – the alternate self responding – to you and touching back, so to speak, you, in acknowledgment of your interconnectedness and of your accessing of this alternate self.

The experience that you have held subsequent, in the feeling of this great affection, is that expression which is offered to you of the great lovingness and affection that is held within all of the aspects of self to each other and to the objective awareness, for they are all elements of yourself, but in a manner of speaking are all also independent, simultaneous to being intertwined with you and elements of you. Are you understanding?

RODNEY: Yes. I thank you. My only question as to what you’ve just said is regarding probable selves. You spoke of them as projections. Does this imply that they’re not independent, individual selves in the sense that aspects or alternate selves are?

ELIAS: Let me express to you, this would [be] slightly in the reverse of what you have just expressed. Alternate selves, aspects of self, are in one respect independent of you, but they also are elements of you. Therefore, they are NOT independent of you, for they continuously are interactive with you and are aiding in your creation of your reality.

Probable selves are a different type of creation. These are projections of yourself in areas of consciousness that you project elements of yourself that you choose not to be experiencing within this particular focus. Therefore, you project outwardly another image of yourself and are therefore creating of a probable self which moves into a probable dimension and is creating of its reality independent of you and your choices. Once projected into a probable reality, these probable selves hold the ability to be creating of their own choices independent of your choices, and they may be creating of their own reality in whatever direction they may be choosing.

RODNEY: Thank you.

ELIAS: You are welcome.

RODNEY: Is there any possibility that I personally know any of these probable selves or alternate selves, or is the probable reality so different from mine that I cannot experience it?

ELIAS: No, the probable realities are not so very different from your own reality that you may not experience them.

Let me express to you that within this present now, objectively you do not hold a knowing or an awareness of any of these probable selves or of the alternate selves that you hold, although let me also express to you that you hold the ability to be connecting with any of these aspects of self – any alternate selves and also any probable selves – at any given moment, and in your investigation of these selves, you may also be offering yourself much information into their reality and their creations.

Be aware, though, that there is a definite difference between an alternate self and a probable self, for a probable self shall be creating of slightly different reality than you are creating yourself, whereas alternate selves shall be creating in harmony with you, for they are elements of you that occupy the same consciousness as yourself.” [session 309, August 22, 1998]

End Notes:

(1) Paul’s note: Seth/Jane Roberts’ term for expressing the concept of God as an action of eternal becoming, inseparable from and contained within Everything, incomprehensible in Its Totality.

This information was first introduced in The Seth Material, Chapter 18, The God Concept – The Creation – The Three Christs, (1970), sessions #426-428, (no date given.)

Elias initially used the term “Creating Universal One And Whole” to describe the same Reality. This was subsequently replaced by “all of consciousness.”

Digests: find out more about Creating Universal One And Whole/all of consciousness.

Digests: find out more about Seth/Jane Roberts.

(2) Vic’s note: at this point, the recorded sound started to fade in and out. I wondered if we might lose the rest of the session. Ron listened to it, and couldn’t figure out what was going on. This never occurred again throughout the rest of the tape. Any impressions?

Paul’s note: Gerry Futterman sent along an impression via email:

... I’m sending a reply to Vic’s note to “any impressions?”

- the impression being that bodies/consciousnesses blink in and out [as was the sound on the recording].

He didn't mention the blinking here - he was DOING it, as in : “You are continuously blinking in and out, exchanging and intersecting with other probable selves.” [session 111, August 11, 1996]

Digests: find out more about blinking in and out.

(3) Paul’s note: the concept of “walk-ins” is found in various New Age belief systems. The basic belief is that one personality is born – beginning a lifetime – and at some point a “new” personality takes possession and assumes the primary ego role. The result seems to explain the strong change of personality and loss of memory that some people experience.

Elias attempts to clarify this belief system within the context of human personality as a multidimensional process consisting of a variety of related aspect selves that he terms probable and alternate selves.

Just because people experience significant personality changes and/or inexplicable memory loss doesn't mean that there are intrusive actions of possession or the like foisted upon an individual by a malevolent OR benevolent ''external'' force. This is simply not the case and only serves to perpetuate the beliefs that some external ''thing'' or someone ''else'' creates our reality for us.

(4) Vic’s note: this is in reference to Elias’ analogy of essence as a tree. Basically, he said that we could view a tree as essence, the branches as focuses of essence, the leaves as alternate selves and probable selves and splinters, and the seeds that fall to the ground as fragments, which then become an entirely new tree, but holding all the same qualities as the first tree.
